Aspen Vinyl, Inc. Fence Installation Guidelines

Privacy & Privacy with accent

Step 2. Set posts

1.

Post holes should be min. 10" in diameter for standard 4"x4" posts and 12" in diameter for 5"x5" posts. And a min. depth of 27". For 7' or 8' tall fencing dig holes 16" in diameter and 37" in depth. Fencing that's over 6' high needs reinforcement in the posts, we offer a z-line post stiffener for this purpose. Posts should have 2-3 inches of concrete below to ensure your post will not sink in wet soil.

2.

To make post setting easier; for 5"x5" posts cut a jig at 91" for 96" centers and for 4"x4" posts cut a jig at 68" for 72" centers and 92" for 96" centers. This allows you to set our posts to the correct post centers.
3. In frost regions, dig post holes deep enough to ensure concrete extends below the frost line.

4.

Now that your hole have been dug, place your posts in your holes, checking that they fit properly and then take them out the holes. You may now fill the hole half way with wet cement. Hover your post over the cement making sure to keep it level to the string line, push post into the cement. Once the post is down, continue pouring the cement to grade, or just below. Before the cement sets, use a level and site down fence line, checking to make sure that your posts are level. If you need to make corrections, use a wooden block across the top of the post and tap down with a rubber mallet. Post heights need to be straight in-line with each other. Come back to the fence line while cement sets and site down to ensure that the posts do not move on you.
5. Remember - Call before you dig. Contact Dig Alert to locate underground utilities in the area. Phone #811

Step 3. Assemble and install Privacy panels

1.

Center and screw u-channel between routed holes on each post. (see drawing 6)

2.

All rails need to be notched (4) times each side. (see drawing 3)
3. Bottom Rail: Install rail into bottom holes of post, groove side up. (see drawing 6)

4.

Top Rail: Install rail slotted side down into top hole of post that does not have any rail in it yet, then bring back and set on top of other post. (see drawing 7)
5. Privacy panels: Slide first picket into slot on bottom rail and in u-channel from right to left. Ensure tongue and groove of each picket lock together. Put the first 13 pickets in and skip the 14th put in 15th in the u-channel then slide the 14th picket down from the top. If you had to set your posts less than 91" apart you can trim the 15th picket with a table saw, skill saw, or a jig saw. (see drawing 7)
6. Top Rail: Push rail into post far enough to clear first post then lower rail onto remaining pickets. Continue to push the rail down, sliding rail into second post. Start next panel in post that has no rail in it.
Privacy with lattice
1. Follow Privacy sections instructions until panels are in place.
2. Mid Rail: Install as per Privacy top rail above.
3. Lattice: Trim to fit between posts. Lower the lattice into the upper channel of the mid rail. Center the lattice between the posts. (see drawing 8)
4. Top Rail: Install as per privacy, ensuring lattice is fully engaged in channel.
